About

I am presently a Title I Writing teacher at Chesatee Academy (grades 6-8) in Gainesville, Georgia.
buffy-lakewood-blog-photoPrior to returning the classroom this past August, I was the media specialist at Chattahoochee High School in Johns Creek, Georgia where I helped lead a renovation of the library that took place during the summer of 2016.  In addition to this work, I established an instructional program for the media center that included significant teaching partnerships with teachers and students in Fine Arts, Language Arts, and ESOL.  In addition to implementing a new attendance tracking software program for the media center program, I also completed a significant clean-up of the library catalog and print collection.

From July 2013-July 2015, I was a school librarian at Norcross High in the Gwinnett County Public School District. Prior to coming to Norcross, I was the Learning Strategist for the Cleveland Public Library in Cleveland, Ohio.  In 2006, I opened and established The Unquiet Library program at Creekview High; this program received numerous state and national awards and recognition between in the seven years I ran the program.  I also was recognized as the School Librarian of the Year for the state of Georgia in 2010; I was also selected as a 2011 Library Journal Mover and Shaker.

I have twenty four years of experience in public education as a high school English teacher, technology integration specialist, and librarian. I’m passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences for learners of all ages. My interests include critical literacy, participatory learning and culture, ethnographic studies, and writing literacies. I’m a 2011 Library Journal Mover and Shaker who loves dogs, shopping, running, music, and poetry.  I blog at The Unquiet Librarian and for DMLcentral.
